Inside the new Qantas Dreamliner 787 – which will soon fly direct from London to Perth

Qantas has revealed the inside of its first 787-9 Dreamliner, which lands in Australia on Friday.

The new plane, VH-ZNA, has been named Great Southern Land, and was handed over to CEO Alan Joyce at the Boeing factory in Seattle this week.

It will start flying from Melbourne to Los Angeles in December and from March next year, the 787 will fly non-stop from Perth to London.

Qantas will add eight Dreamliners to its fleet by the end of 2018, retiring five 747s as a result.

Joyce said that every element of the new plane had been redesigned, right down to the crockery, cutlery and glassware, which is 11% lighter.

"There are lots of elements that combine to make the Qantas Dreamliner special," he said.

"We're working with sleep specialists, dieticians and other scientists at the University of Sydney to see how adjustments to our inflight service can improve wellbeing and help people adjust to new time zones."
