A five-year-old kid from Belfast didn’t get the surprise he was hoping for when he opened a Kinder Surprise egg.

Instead of finding a toy inside, the child found a small bag of white powder that was later found to be crystal meth.

The young boy and his eight-year-old brother were playing in the neighbourhood of Drumachose when they found the yellow plastic egg in a hedge.

After handing the unfamiliar item over to their father, who passed it on to the police, it was discovered to be crystal meth.

Limavady DUP councillor Alan Robinson told the Daily Star the incident could have had a very different, dire ending.

“As a father of a child, I know how enticing Kinder eggs and their contents are to children,” he said.

“In this instance the children are to be commended for passing the contents to their parents.”

There are no reports that the incident has been linked with Ferrero’s Kinder Surprise.

Ferrero Australia told Business Insider: “This is a matter for police investigation. However Ferrero highly deplores any abuse or illegal use of its products or their components.”

In April, Ferrero was voted as the most reputable food company in the world, according to the Reputation Institute’s Global RepTrak 100. As part of the rankings, it was also listed as the most reputable company in Italy, and the 18th most reputable company in the world across all industries.
